Why EN149 Masks are Unique and Different from Other Masks
MAR 20, 2021
Millions of people around the world continue to be at risk of contracting the Coronavirus. The global pandemic is barely slowing down, and it’s up to you to come up with ways to protect yourself.
Luckily, keeping yourself safe is as easy as regularly washing your hands. But if you want full protection, especially outdoors, it’s best that you wear a mask.
Wearing a mask does not only protect you as the wearer, it also protects the people in your surroundings. They cover your nose and mouth, preventing airborne particles from entering your airways while preventing any virus that you may be carrying from being inhaled by people near you.
The various types of respiratory protection:
- Single-use face masks
If you’ve gone out of your house in the last 12 months, chances are, you’ve picked up a couple of single-use face masks for your personal use. These are the most common types of masks on the market; however, they’re not the best at filtering particles smaller than 3.0 microns.
- Head and face protection
Surgical gowns are another standard personal protective equipment in the medical field, vital in the operating room. They are often worn over scrubs, helping doctors and nurses maintain a sterile surgical environment.
Generally, these PPE personal protective equipment are long-sleeved with elastic cuffs to ensure they don’t fall off during a procedure.
Similar in appearance to single-use masks, surgical masks are most common in healthcare facilities. They vary in filtration effectiveness, with the lowest type at least 95% effective at filtering 3.0-micron particles.
When to use EN 149 masks
EN 149 FFP1 masks and other variants are the most effective in protecting against large solid particles and irritating substances. On top of that, they stop aerosol and small water droplets from entering your system, ultimately preventing bacteria and viruses from going near you.
What’s great about EN 149 masks is that they can be used in the workplace. In fact, EN 149 FFP1 is perfect for the agricultural sector and cleaning works, while FFP2 and FFP3 are best for healthcare professionals.
